Freddy S. Zalta: Its a dangerous precedent that is taking place tomorrow in Washington. Dozens of Democrats are boycotting the inauguration because they are unhappy that Donald Trump is being sworn in as President. When Obama was elected Republicans attended it despite their dislike of him, their mistrust or possibly despite the fact that they are racists . They still attended and there was a respectful transfer of power. If this becomes the standard response to a party's loss of an election - the beauty and the historical significance of the peaceful and respectful transfer of power from one party to another will be a thing of the past and that would be a damn shame. Part of what cements our claim as the leader of the free world is this peaceful transfer of power from one president to the next one. What happens when a sitting president decides he doesn't want to leave the office and puts up an argument - while his supporters take to the streets? Where does it end? What ever happened to serving at the pleasure of the President? To me what is insulting is the Mayor of New York leading a protest in this great city. Be grownup and respect the electoral process and serve at the pleasure of the President
