Why the Palestinian people will never leave the 11th century. Violence and self victimization to them is like peace and independence is to Israel. #istandwithisrael #peace #love #education #democracy #freedomInstagram

Standing alone, searching for some answers, trying to catch some fish on this rainy morning. Walking through the waves as they ebb and flow, wondering what is next for me and how far will I go? Sacred texts, sacred words keep me grounded with a dumb grin. Present tests, complicated questions I feel as if I can win. Is a dream a catalyst for living? Is realized adventures truly just a dream? I feel a tug on my pole, a school of fish are surrounding me. They just be searching for answers in this ebb and flow, filled with chilly water on this rainy day. The answers will come unexpectedly, just like the rain on a sunny day or the ice cream man on a deserted street. Bells ringing and children running. It's all going to be okay. It's all going to be okay. #poetry #poems #poem #poetsofinstagram #poetofinstagram #prosebyme #mypoem #freddyzalta #writing #writingcommunity  #igwriters #igwriter #original #originalpoem #originalprose #poetsociety #writersofinstagram #writer #author #adviceInstagram

A lone rose, floating in a pool, hardened edges and discolored, yet still so beautiful. Another soul, brought into this world, a world that can be so cold, yet kept warm by the mother's love. We each have multiple figures in our world who have raised us, inspired us and have kept us safe, fed and calm. But only one has carried us within and then watched us once out. A love that is unconditional and unbreakable...a mother's love. Like a lone rose, standing tall in a vase, like a sentinel watching, guarding and finally, prodding us on our way. If life is fragile and love is so empowering, then it's the mother who empowers us to stand straight, eat a good meal, don't talk too much but don't be too quiet either. Dream, but live and then live that dream. Love, love and never run from it, regardless of your unique definition of what it means, never stop running towards it and never turn away. Is there anything more gratifying and so predictable as a mother's love? Life can be so contradictory and it can expel everything you once held as sacred... You can be wearing clothing that are torn and tattered, smell like a grease trap and look just as bad. Failed at everything and find yourself homeless and alone... She will still take you inside, run you a bath, set out some clothing and cook you a meal, all with that never waning look of love in her eyes. #mothersday #love #zalta #freddyzalta #mom #foreverInstagram

Now available for purchase! Here is a excerpt from my novella - please buy it or ask me for more information. A good salesman has mastered the most difficult and the most vital part of the sale - the selling of himself. It's a one man show, an improv with the spotlight shining directly at you. Other than some basic product information, there is no predetermined script in most cases. When you walk into a room everyone notices because you have that dynamic persona. You adjust automatically to the audience you face - it is you and them. You smile, you look your audience in the eyes and you greet them all individually. Your handshake is firm and your smile is wide. You can sell yourself to anyone - you must be convinced of that otherwise you will fail. Even though it's the products, manufacturing or the retailer's compliance list that sometimes can cause a hiccup or kill sales; in the end whether an appointment is successful or not - it's all on you. There is no pointing fingers, there are no excuses and you don't have the time for that anyway. Believe me a lot of the time there are fingers to be pointed and excuses to be made. But it doesn't mean shit when your bank account is dwindling and you have bills to be paid. Con Edison and Verizon don't give a damn whether the shipping department did not follow Wal-Mart's compliance procedures correctly. American Express and Visa could give two shits about the dock workers strike which caused the delays in shipments from China; which caused the order to be canceled. Which caused the commission check to never be written or deposited in the bank account that is now hovering at $159.23. When you are given a product to sell you become obsessed. Your mind takes it on as an appendage - you daydream and stay up at night thinking about different ways you can sell, market or improve the product. You drive all the people in your life crazy; you are in a tunnel and you are focused. No one else can understand the obsession. No one can respond quickly enough to your requests because you live with a sense of urgency not shared by anyone else. #keepwriting #writingpoetry #writinggoals #writingabook #writingcommunityofinstagramInstagram

Where is the Song? and some other snippets

What is the melody, where is the song? Searching through the jukebox, searching through this collection of records… Was the song simply another stolen memory? Poetic metaphors about confusion and love abound…simply hidden confessions… Empty roads, trains running across bridges and the lucky old sun. Couples walking and slowly diverging into separate paths… One leading […]

Each year we promise to "never forget" and vow "never again" xenophobia is the cause and death is the effect. A prayer for accepting all differences on this day of rememberance. Too many people have died simply for being different. Behind each window is someone's home. Their lives are lived within the walls of those rooms. Do you know what they feel? Do you know the shadows that haunt them? Do they stand at the window and stare towards the horizon, hoping, dreading or fleeing from... What? Does she think of me when the sun collapses and the evening begins? Does he regret the words he should have said but just couldn't translate his feelings for words? Is the old lady still painting her face and fixing up her hair, thinking that her husband is waiting for her somewhere... Do the children still play in the courtyard while their mother sits on the bench remembering herself from another time and wondering where that person is? Does that old couple still dance to Sinatra, all dressed up and in love? Does life and love exist behind each window or is it simply hundreds of stage plays or stories? #poetry #poems #poem #poetsofinstagram #poetofinstagram #prosebyme #mypoem #freddyzalta #writing #writingcommunity  #igwriters #igwriter #original #originalpoem #originalprose #poetsociety #writersofinstagram #writer #author #advice #brooklyn #behindthewindows #loveInstagram

There used to be a Blockbuster video store here.(pictured) Every Friday with my brother Carlos we would go to rent a couple of movies. I usually listened to his taste in movies to rent, we had the same taste. Could be because I usually followed his lead in most things. This place would be packed with everyone we knew. It was another one of those places like Oscars, the schoolyard and other gathering spots where we met friends, made plans or showed off in front of the ones we wanted to impress. No cell phones, no electronic distractions, just face to face. For better or worse. I love progress. I love how technological, medicinal and communication enhancements have given us the opportunities to make the world a better place. So I am not rejecting any of that, as I communicate this long winded attempt to express my current mood on my Galaxy S10. I think it could be I am missing that age where our responsibilities were minimal. We had no clue back then, we thought we carried the weight of the world on our shoulders. There were times we were in wonder about life, but we tried not to let on, keeping our poker faces on so as not reveal our mortality. But make no mistake a those were wonder years for us, we were growing and in wonder of the world we were entering. Forging ahead through the closed doors, the road blocks and the "wrong way signs." (How did they know we were going the wrong way?) I am nostalgic, that's what my buddy @rayday says. He's right. I guess that's the Freddy in me. But I feel that it's more than nostalgia. I think it's more awe and surprise that so much time has passed that mentally I still feel that I have not aged. But the mirrors and my body reminds me, there are less days ahead for me than what has already passed. We all need to make the most of each and every moment. Throw away grudges and insecurities. Be true to who you are. Stop pretending. So many places and faces have come and gone too quickly. We are running out of time. Hurry up and live.Instagram

A Bedtime Story

Self awareness and a feeling of recognition that she had withstood this past winter and the ones that had visited her each season year after year, instilled in her a strong sense of pride and gratitude. She was strong. She could do anything, be anything and most important she could be her true self… Whoever she chose to be.

It was one of those moments in life when everything begins to rhyme. The rain & snow had conspired to create sleet. Rebecca walked towards the pier, bundled up in coat and scarf, boots & flowery skirt. Her black hair tied into a bow and hidden within a black woolen cap, unrevealed and protected. She walked & stepped into a deep puddle, her boots not as waterproof as advertised, had allowed icy water to rush in & drown her feet. She walked towards the pier & saw a rusted post standing tall. How many winter's had this pole withstood? It had once been shiny & new, it now carried the scars of time. Sure a lot of this winter had been self imposed, freedom is not as simple as it seems. But as the sun shone she felt… What? A sense of freedom? Independence? Self awareness & a feeling of recognition that she had withstood this past winter & the ones that had visited her each season year after year, instilled in her a strong sense of pride & gratitude. She was strong. She could do anything, be anything and most important she could be her true self… Whoever she chose to be. She saw a couple, posing to take a selfie when she asked them if they wanted her to take the picture for them. “Yes thank you." The woman smiled. Instead of simply taking the picture, Rebecca said, “Instead of a boring pose, express how you are both feeling right now.” They laughed, whispered to each other & then began to laugh, embrace & jump up & down. She captured these emotions & they were all laughing. “Ok now it's your turn. You pose & express how you are feeling.” Rebecca said, "OK!” She took off her boots, her coat & her hat. She was wearing only her white turtleneck & flowing flowery skirt. She jumped up & danced away. Smiling, laughing & finally free from her self imposed winter. It was one of those moments in life when everything begins to rhyme. It was a life defining moment of clarity. Her winter had passed &the sun had melted away her winter. The temperature was still around 20 degrees outside, but there is an internal warmth that can blow away any sense of clouds, cold or ice. She was alive. Anything was possible.Instagram

She walked right into his life and he knew right away he would give in to her. One look at her, four words spoken in her raspy voice and her hand lightly cascading down his left arm… Her name was, fantastically, Sabrina. She was a 28 year old native of London but most recently was living in Croydon, South of London. She grew up in Hampstead into a very wealthy family. Her father was a cardiovascular surgeon and her mother a Child Psychologist. Sabrina had moved to Croydon upon her graduation from university and had been teaching in the Croydon College for three years when the opportunity to work in New York City was brought to her. Although Sabrina was close to her 3 sisters and her 2 brothers. She jumped at the opportunity. She was teaching advanced English at the British International School of New York and was living in a studio apartment on First Avenue walking distance to the school. This was her first year in New York and she had fallen in love with the city’s 24 hour madness. New York felt like London to her, without the doom and gloom attitude of the Motherland. No stiff upper lips or nasty looks here, instead there was the honest “F you lady” when she would be confronted with someone who wasn’t thrilled with her. #shortstory #bryantpark #tbf #freddyzalta #instagramauthor #love #writing #sabrina #poetsofinstagram #writerscommunity http://bit.ly/1hbPRfX

Roads converging, splitting and then converging once again. Just as the tides ebb and flow, the further out you go the quicker you return. There is a beacon, a North Star, it's within you, wherever you may travel, it's always within you. It's your home, within you. Even as a stranger in a strange land, you are always at home, it's always within you. Don't fret, don't panic, wherever you go you always possess your safe place within you.. It is you. #poetsofinsta #writersofinstagrampoetry #poemsociety #poetrygroup #writersclub #artofpoets #poemsoftheday #openmicpoetry #artiscollab #artandcultureglobal #poetrycommunity #cafewriting #keepwriting #writingpoetry #writinggoals #writingabook #writingcommunityofinstagram #writingskills #writingworkshop #Freddyzalta #homeInstagram
