The Muttering River Chapter 3

It was a humid evening and the Rabbi pronounced us man and wife. The river was roaring past us as the sun beat down on the altar and the glass was shattered.

When the time has Run out…

When love is all around, as you are lowered into the ground - what are you feeling? Is it peace or regret?

You Know the Song

There was a sunrise and then just as quickly a sunset. You know the song… Time goes way too quickly and youth vanishes overnight.

Empty Eyes

A life once grasped so tightly, right hand in the air for the music, left hand clutching another... celebrations and a glass or two of wine. Empty eyes staring with a hint of what? Anger? Confusion? Fear? O the lamentations of the empty bodied survivors as they are fed, changed and put to bed with love and care...the circle of life that no one yearns for…

Son of my Father

“The point is you have what you need to survive - hope will come and go - you may think that it's gone but there is always a dimly lit flame of hope inside of you as long as your heart is beating.”

Tough and Gentle

He is sitting there, no light in his eyes Who stole it or did he sell it to the man living on the border line by the river Diablo? That tall man with the crooked conscience who will never learn how to live true… It's sad when you really think about it but who has time or energy to think anymore.

David Wright – Captain Emeritus

Baseball, like life, takes circuitous routes through history. Just when we think there is a player who can never be replaced, a new prospect comes up and becomes the face of a team. Every once in while, maybe even once in a generation; a baseball player comes around who seems to love the game and the team he plays for as much as the biggest fan.

Two Strangers

“That’s a lot of luggage to bring into a marriage.” “As if it’s not tough as it is.” She said. “What are you going to tell her?” “I am going to tell her to make a decision based on what she feels. If she is scared at any time when she is with him - that is a bad thing. Couples should feel safe when they are together.” “So why don't you just tell her not to marry him?” “Because it’s her decision to make. If I tell her to do something it's my decision. She needs to understand that whatever direction she is going to choose in life, she has to own it.”

Feeling and Saying, “Thank You”

Some people pray to their higher power with words written by others and read them quickly to get through the task.   Think of it like a little kid when their guardian says, “Say thank you.” They put on an angry face and say in a deep and quick pace, “Thankyou.” “Thank yous” become a reflex reaction like a knee jerk. You are given something that is priceless and you say, “Thank you.” A sports player excels and points at the sky and says, “Thank you.” But when they fail do they express gratitude for at least being given the chance?

Catastrophic Misunderstandings

Lost! Hearts and souls, hold hands and say, “it's alright, it's alright, let's right these wrongs. These catastrophic  misunderstandings of love and lust, these lies, disguised as hopes and dreams. Emotional misers wander around searching...while love starved lovers sit waiting to be found. In a hotel room overlooking La Mujer Dormida, in Mexico a forgotten doll lays on the floor behind the curtain while an old man drinks his bootleg tequila from a metal cup...the sun sets somewhere while he closes his eyes.

Memories on Paper

He was an old man they say - too old to have lived at all. "Was he ever a dreamer, M'am or was he born to die?" Did he ever think about singing or playing ball?

Life of a Salesman Chapter 4

You smile, you look them in the eyes and your handshake is firm. When you walk into a room everyone notices because you have that dynamic persona. You adjust automatically to the audience you face - its you and them. You can sell yourself to anyone - you must be convinced of that otherwise nothing will work. Even though its the products, manufacturing or the retailer's compliance list that sometimes can cause a hiccup or kill sales; in the end whether an appointment is successful or not - its all on you.

Life of a Salesman Chapter 3

My mother didn't like me all that much. Oh she loved me but she just didn't like me. She would tell me this when she put me to sleep at night. "Love you! Don't like you very much, but you are my son." "Love you too, mom. Mom? Did dad like me?" I would ask. "Yes he did, honey, he loved you." "So how come you dont like me much?" "Not sure - but I love you." "So you love me so much that you cannot like me?" "I guess you can say that - now go to sleep."

Blood and Coffee and the Field of Dreams

The world is spinning out of control - Islamic extremists do not have any sense of the value of a single life. They worship a religion where death is the ultimate achievement. Whereas the rest of the world celebrates life and the value of each and every soul. We understand that with each death there is a value, a space, that is lost and the world, the whole world is changed forever. So we watch baseball, we scream obscenities at the screen, jump for joy when we can and simply enjoy the pain of being a NY Met's fan.

Another Life and Time

"Where, when, how?" I ask. "I don't know, but here we are. I was watching you walk, babe, and you don't look like the Freddy I remember." "I am not the Freddy you remember. People have all turned out to be false gods prayed to by the lost. Pretense and self promotion is all the rage these days." "I know I see your posts." "Thats all done in jest - but its a platform for me to express myself."

The 5,310 Testament

"Hey Freddy is this seat taken?" That smile, still slays me after so many years. The coffee, the muffins, egg salad on whole grain, a large water bottle, another cup of coffee and a late afternoon large chocolate chunk cookie; they continued to be presented to me along with emotional confessions of fears, guilt, lust, loneliness, frustrations, disillusions about the promises of what life should be and so many other feelings that I could not name them all here.
