It was always Ginger. Mary Ann was the brainy beautiful assistant to the Professor. She had a way about her that was part best friend and part sexy. A drinking buddy for sure and a dance partner no doubt. For years we chose Mary Ann as the one we loved, but deep inside we knew, it was Ginger. She had that silken voice, tanned skin and those soft eyes. Look at her in a picture and there is no denying she was the “movie star.” She made us laugh, wore skimpy clothes and and spoke in a soft sexy voice. Oh to be on a deserted island with her..what were the men thinking? Gilligan, the Millionaire, the Professor and the Skipper – sure none of them could measure up to her physically – but you are on a deserted island for god sakes. Gilligan had his chances and the skipper tried his best to woo the starlet but just wasn’t up for the challenge. In real life – Mary Ann (Dawn Wells) received twice the amount of fan mail then Ginger (Tina Louise) during the run of the show. How can that be? Was it the seemingly intelligence factor that enticed men or was it the girl next door, down to earth perkiness which endeared her most to fans? I don’t know – looking back now as a 52 year old man I can see some of my own lack of confidence in my choice of Mary Ann. Mary Ann was attainable while Ginger was a fantasy which I simply had no right to pursue. Or perhaps it is my turning 52 years old which propels me in the direction of the unattainable? At my age who wants a Mary Ann when you can have a Ginger? Mary Ann, while beautiful in her own right, was easy to speak to and could bake a mean pie. She did have her sexiness as well but Ginger is spicy while Mary Ann is sweet as a blueberry pie. But there is something about Ginger… #ginger #mondaymotivation #love #threehourtourInstagram

“That’s a lot of luggage to bring into a marriage.” “As if it’s not tough as it is.” She said. “What are you going to tell her?” “I am going to tell her to make a decision based on what she feels. If she is scared at any time when she is with him - that is a bad thing. Couples should feel safe when they are together.” “So why don't you just tell her not to marry him?” “Because it’s her decision to make. If I tell her to do something it's my decision. She needs to understand that whatever direction she is going to choose in life, she has to own it.” Read the full post https://ift.tt/2uQP4uT #photolab #strangers #nydn #life #shortstoryoftheday #wordpress #chooseyourlifeInstagram

That Anxious Feeling Chapter 2

Consider the bottle your head, the champagne your brain and the bubbles your emotions. There is only so much your emotions can be held in check before they find their way out again. They need to be expressed and your subconscious mind wants them to be expressed. It is your conscious mind which is scared of what these emotions may reveal about yourself once they are exposed to the scrutiny of others - this causes anxiety and the closer they get to being revealed - panic.

The Turtle and a Life of Lemons

Charles stayed in the store on the outskirts of Nowhere, New York and drank several cups of coffee during the day. One day he found a manuscript with his name on it. There was a date beneath his name, May 22, 1925. “A Life of Lemons,” By Charles Rumpio.

I Missed The Parade

I missed the parade… Where are the balloons, flying high in the sky? The people cheering, the confetti falling and the sounds of music? I had been promised cotton candy and giant lollipops, popcorn and hot dogs, soda of each and every kind… Long legged ladies and handsome dressed men, marching, dancing and singing in celebration. I missed the parade…

I had been promised cotton candy and giant lollipops, popcorn and hot dogs, soda of each and every kind… Long legged ladies and handsome dressed men, marching, dancing and singing in celebration. I missed the parade… Where are the marching bands? Where are the big balloons? Where has the sound of the people cheering, the music playing and the fireworks gone? I was told there would be cotton candy, long legged ladies and the sounds of celebrations… I am standing here on an empty street wondering if I might have picked the wrong day, time or place. Wasn't there cause for celebration? Fireworks lighting up the sky? Wasn't there supposed to be a parade? I walk alone and I catch a glimpse of a shooting star across the sky. There are fireflies blinking and the sounds of crickets, cicadas and snoring ducks on the lake. The smell of the wood burning somewhere and the distance memories of a celebration held a long time ago. Ghosts in the dark, laughter and slow dancing. A band playing and the countdown towards a new beginning, a commencement with pomp and circumstance...ghosts in the darkness, I can imagine the celebrations… I missed the parade… #mondaymood #poemoftheday #parade #ghostsinthenightInstagram

True personal freedom is the ultimate goal - can you imagine yourself being truly free? It's not as simple as you think. True personal freedom can be as elusive as choosing the winning lottery numbers. It's not as simple as reading that book or taking that pill - although they are part of the process; it takes a lot of introspection and honest assessments of yourself in order to have a glimpse of just who it is you truly are. This can be painful. #freedom #love #photolab #innertruth #tgif Full post https://ift.tt/2zEeD7d

Thailand and the Freedom of Choice

Some people are praising the Lord for the rescue mission - that's all well and good - but, it was the human freedom of choice which caused and which ended the ordeal. If we praise the Lord for every situation such as this - who do we blame when human indifference or human violence steals the freedom and the life from millions of people around the world? Is God still in control then? It's easy to give full credit and blame to a Higher power - it's imperative and the survival of the world depends on it -  for us to take responsibility to act when we can.

The problem with fear and anxiety is that unless you have been through it – it makes no sense to you and you simply want to smack the person experiencing it and say, “Get over it!” If only it were that simple… The fear of impending doom one feels when in the midst of a panic attack is indescribable to others who have never encountered this silent band of demons. Think of it as if having a revolver pointed at you from ten different angles while the piecing sounds of rebel yells are coming at you in maximum surround sound clarity. Reality has nothing to do with the scenes you are experiencing, but to the person in the throes of the attack, they are as real as the heart that is pounding in your chest. In order to learn to defeat these authentic yet countrerfeit scenes of doom and impending disaster – one needs to become more aware of the emotions they are suppressing or impressing upon themselves. #photolabpro #depression #anxiety #panicattack https://ift.tt/2MSuq4g

Feeling and Saying, “Thank You”

Some people pray to their higher power with words written by others and read them quickly to get through the task.   Think of it like a little kid when their guardian says, “Say thank you.” They put on an angry face and say in a deep and quick pace, “Thankyou.” “Thank yous” become a reflex reaction like a knee jerk. You are given something that is priceless and you say, “Thank you.” A sports player excels and points at the sky and says, “Thank you.” But when they fail do they express gratitude for at least being given the chance?

Feeling and saying thank you Read more https://ift.tt/2tKIOV7 There are so many gifts we are given that are easily taken for granted. We are so caught up in the “what we need” that we forget just what it is that we have. The needs and the haves are different for each individual. Why one side is feasting while others down the road are starving - as much as we try to understand - we truly have no clue. We all feel some sense of gratitude about some parts of life. But it's the verbalizing of this gratitude which we let slip away. I am sure people will deny ever failing to express gratitude. Roberto Martin Antonio Bonilla is a former player in Major League Baseball of Puerto Rican descent who played from 1986 to 2001.  He sends a thank you note to his bosses every July 2... Each year on the first of July, the former Met collects a paycheck of just under $1.2 Million, $1,193,248.20 to be exact - all the way until 2035. Why? Because the Mets deferred the $5.9 Million he was supposed to make in 2000, when he was released in January and never even played - stretching it out 24 years with eight percent interest. That $5.9 Million will actually be $29.8 Million. #bobbybonilladay #mets #wilponsInstagram

You cannot pinpoint and understand completely the effects that depression can have on a person. Blaming social media or other tangibles is the simplistic point of view. It goes much further and much deeper than this. Does the fear of missing out or FOMO play a part in sadness and frustration? Of course it does, but so does walking the empty streets when everyone has gone on vacation. Driving a car that cannot drive itself or being in a loveless marriage. Depression is another monster and much more debilitating than sadness and FOMO. Don't downgrade it's cancerous destruction by blaming external forces only. It is much more complicated. Living under a dark cloud, not leaving the house when you know you should, because you just cannot find the energy or the inspiration to do so, even when the reasons are staring you in the face... Hearing laughter, seeing smiles and ingesting the aromas that once upon a time brought a sense of enjoyment and now it's as if it's just another stench... Wanting to be at peace but your mind is at war. Wanting to be happy, but you just don't have that vibe anymore. Think of it as the plague of darkness in Egypt. Darkness so thick that you cannot move, see or breathe. Now multiply that... I have been there, it will get better, I swear it will, but you need to let go of trying to control everything... Get help, it will help. It's more than one person can handle... Please don't give up. #depression #suicideprevention #itwillgetbetter National Suicide Prevention Lifeline Call 1-800-273-8255 Available 24 hours everydayInstagram

The other day a famous designer took her own life. I don’t know what the circumstances were. What I do know was what her loved ones said afterwards. #Katespade , had been suffering from depression for years but was unwilling to seek help because she was concerned about how it would reflect on her brand’s image. That was her excuse – no one outside of her inner circle know’s whether that was the reason or if there were other ones. She left behind a daughter, a husband and a lot of people who loved her and who’s lives can only be negatively impacted by her loss. I read a book the other day and I took from it one piece of advice which I cling to. With all the craziness happening in the world, the volcanoes, earthquakes, other “natural” disasters and terrorism – we must remain grateful. I have several friends who have battled cancer – some have succeeded, some are still fighting and others have lost. I have several friends who have battled depression – some have been treated, continue to be treated and others simply “man up” regardless of their gender. The ones who believe they can “man up” are the ones who are screaming, crying, hiding or shaking – if they are lucky. Others find a way to end their pain and those are the hardest to take. I have several friends who have financial burdens that others would never even notice. They vacation, they drive fancy cars and dress in expensive clothing. They are slaves to their appearances and have sacrificed their souls to others in order to keep their friends and place in the society or community in which they live. To them – those placeholders are what validates their lives – to them without it, they are failures and fodder for the distributors of gossip and juicy news. They know this because they are part of those groups and their best friends and family will be the first to whisper the “crazy news” about “Henry and June.” Cheating spouses, lying bosses, brother vs. brother and families torn apart by greed, jealousy and resentment. All in the name of the mighty dollar and what it can bring for them. #suicideprevention #katespade #love #gratitude #help Read more https://ift.tt/2M7bZZL

(NOTE I DID NOT REREAD THIS SIMPLY WROTE IT AND PUBLISHED IT) In these days of truly desperate times and daily if not hourly reports of senseless killings - i try and take a step back to a time when the news did not travel as fast and far. When reality was the evening news or the headline of the newspaper in the morning (or the night owl edition). Growing up in the 1970’s, I would come home from school right on time to watch “The 430 Movie” which would segway into the Eyewitness News on channel 7 at 6 o’clock. I would also spend a lot of time out of the house - on the porch, or playing wiffle ball in the space between the house we lived in and the house next door. It was roughly 10 to 15 feet wide and around 40 feet long. At the end of the driveway there was a gate which we would close to signify a homerun. Behind the “home plate” would be a fence which separated the homes on east 2nd street, where I lived and east 3rd street. If we hit a foul ball in back of us - there were times the ball would go over the fence and into the backyard of the other house. One of the homes had a hole in the fence which we could fit through to retrieve the ball. The other side which had honeysuckles growing out of it was closed with the lady living there quite serious and not so obliging or forgiving. We would need to distract her as she sat on her back porch or to hope that she wasn't there. One time one of us rang her doorbell, which made her get up to answer the door while another one of us climbed the fence to get the ball. It was a close call but after getting pants stuck on the top of the fence, a bee staring him down - he got down and made it before the bee stung him or the lady returned. Romanticizing the past is easy when the present can be so overwhelming. We know deep down that the old days weren't always so good. But we choose to focus on the times that we remember with a smile. River rushes on

Tears from the ground, voices from memory and a long list of unanswered questions. I held your hand and you held my heart, just for one night, just for one night.

Bob Dylan on Israel 1985. The neighborhood bully he just lives to survive He's criticized and condemned for being alive He's not supposed to fight back, he's supposed to have thick skin He's supposed to lay down and die when his door is kicked in He's the neighborhood bully. The neighborhood bully been driven out of every land He's wandered the earth an exiled man Seen his family scattered, his people hounded and torn He's always on trial for just being born He's the neighborhood bully. Well, he knocked out a lynch mob, he was criticized Old women condemned him, said he should apologize Then he destroyed a bomb factory, nobody was glad The bombs were meant for him. He was supposed to feel bad He's the neighborhood bully. Well, the chances are against it, and the odds are slim That he'll live by the rules that the world makes for him 'Cause there's a noose at his neck and a gun at his back And a license to kill him is given out to every maniac He's the neighborhood bully. #istandwithisrael #jerusalem @let_my_people_know @israellycoolInstagram

Tales from the F Train – Hope and Gratitude

“I am good, it is great to see you, Mr. B.” “You look just like your father - I miss him, what a man! A legend!” As always a tear streaked through my heart whenever someone mentioned my father. He had passed away two years earlier - but the void was still pulsating within me.
