Thanksgiving has a lot of different definitions for people historically. to me thanksgiving means turkey, pumpkin pie, yams and being with family. Thanksgiving is a day for us all to stop – look around and feel. Each day we should be grateful for every stitch of clothing, health and ability we are blessed with. But every day “should ofs” become words and feelings mumbled or said quickly. Thanksgiving is one day where we are able to stop, look, feel and appreciate everything and everyone. We all have different opinions – some people express them respectfully with an open mind to hear what others may have to say. That is how it should be. Mike Lupica – a sportswriter who used to write for the local tabloids – used to write about a perfect sports day in New York using the players I grew up watching. A day when Tom Seaver is on the mound for the Met’s facing Derek Jeter, first pitch of the game. In centerfield is Mookie Wilson, flanked by Cleon Jones and Darryl Strawberry. First base is Keith Hernandez, Edgardo Alfonzo at 2nd and the younger Jose Reyes and David Wright on the left side. Behind the plate is the Kid, Gary Carter, because no one could stop him from running out there before Piazza and Grote. Mattingly is at first base for the other team (ahem) Randolph beside him and on the left side is Jeter and Nettles, of course. The outfield is Reggie, Mickey Rivers and Winfield. Behind the plate, catching Ron Guidry is the Captain Thurman Munson. (as if there is any question about that). Continues on my blog https://ift.tt/1hbPRfX

On the football field there is Joe Namath with Joe Fields protecting him and Weslie Walker in the endzone ball in hand. The Sack exchange and Weslie Walker - remember I chose these players - as Pat Leahy gets ready for the extra point. On the wood we have the NY Knickerbockers facing the Pacers with the 4th quarter at MSG a do over. Ewing also would dunk the next year after an inbound pass from Derek Harper. Pat Riley would wear his championship ring with the Knicks insignia on it and Ewing, Starks, Oakley would ride down the canyon of heroes... Read more at my blogInstagram

Thanksgiving – Thank you all

Sports is a welcomed distraction from this messed up world. It brings strangers and families together to high five, argue and discuss strategy - second guessing each move and complaining profanely when a hitter cannot hit a 95 mile an hour slider or a 100 mile an hour fastball.  As a baseball fan and an obvious Met's fan (if you know me) our lives revolve around baseball 365 days a year and sometimes even 366 days. The radio in the car, the video on the screens and the updates during every occasion from a wedding to a funeral. As a child calling sports phone listening to the quick update from wherever I was...

If I could build a baseball field in my backyard that would be cool. Ease his pain, Ray. #fieldofdreams #baseball #wiffleball thanks to @thebsbkingInstagram

Reject hatred and reject conformity. Embrace love and accept diversity… Sometimes wars need to be fought to eradicate the ones who live to kill. Peace is only true if fear is non-existent.

Airbnb agreed to boycott West Bank settlements when it removed settler rental listings Monday from its popular website, even though US law does not bar such posts. https://ift.tt/2KfFSGN #boycottairbnb #notillegal #israeliland #jewishInstagram

Strange times, celebrating hatred and it's evil messenger. Snakes coil around the tree stump, blocking all air, all blood from keeping life moving forward. Stampedes in the cities, in the suburbs where the children play, where the families pray. Avalanches of blood dripping across the rivers, the oceans - reservoirs of past lives stolen, are overflowing. Reject hatred and reject conformity. Embrace love and accept diversity… Sometimes wars need to be fought to eradicate the ones who live to kill. Peace is only true if fear is non-existent. Strange times, the world is upside down - definitions of the conduct of human beings are mistaken into the sub-human culture it has become. When will the light shine, once again? Once rockets were used for exploration and kites were used for fun - now they have turned them into destructive weapons. Children on the front with their mothers covered up. In places where it's a sin for a woman to expose her face but not to kill an innocent child. It's a long road to atonement when your words have caused others pain. No freeway to forgiveness and no one there to palm grease at the door. Strange times, celebrating haters; unifiers for exclusion. Snakes coiled around the tree making the apples fall all around… Reservoirs of blood and tears...too many people sipping from a wooden cup, red lips and teeth. Reject hatred and reject conformity. Embrace love and accept diversity… Sometimes wars need to be fought to eradicate the ones who live to kill. Peace is only true if fear is non-existent. #peace #love #acceptance #bloodInstagram

The Son of my Father “The point is you have what you need to survive – hope will come and go – you may think that it’s gone but there is always a dimly lit flame of hope inside of you as long as your heart is beating.” Check out my blog for the rest, it's my full name dot comInstagram

Son of my Father

“The point is you have what you need to survive - hope will come and go - you may think that it's gone but there is always a dimly lit flame of hope inside of you as long as your heart is beating.”

Tom, looking more like the young tommy kicked his left foot, looked to the ground, threw his fingers through his once pure dark hair and said, "is there a way we can go back and start again?" Amanda, with her deep black strapless party iii dress, heels in hand and a couple of tear drops causing her eyeliner to run in each of her grayblue eyes, simply said, "you cant go back, we broke the heart now its time to move on." "Why cant we just go back and start fresh? Pretend that none of this ever happened?" "Because when life happens there scars, footprints, some sort of proof that events occurred. Sort of like hammering a nail onto a wall, just because you pull it out doesnt mean the crack in the wall disappears." #tgif #instashort #love #lifeInstagram

Ready

The temperature is cold and the sky is dark...the morning comes… Birds gossiping in the trees, squirrels mining their acorns and cats moaning in heat. Brooklyn brownstones, streets of cobblestones and the Manhattan Bridge…

When the volume is lowered and the music is barely audible… When the words we try to read look as if they are rained on and blurred out… When the sun shines sporadically and the night comes too early… The radio is blasting out static noises and the television is broadcasting white noisey images. The streets are silent save for the random car traffic. The temperature is cold and the sky is dark...the morning comes… Birds gossiping in the trees, squirrels mining their acorns and cats moaning in heat. Brooklyn brownstones, streets of cobblestones and the Manhattan Bridge… When will I win? When will I win? When… River is dark and rushing along; the bridges tower across it. Young man on a skateboard racing downhill never thinking about the way back up. Street vendors hawking their goods and tourists posing with Freedom behind them. New York City is in black and white today but tomorrow it's forecast to be blue and orange. Brooklyn brownstones, streets of cobblestones and the Brooklyn Bridge… I am ready to win. I am ready to win. I am ready... #punchintheface #freedomInstagram

The Pittsburgh @Penguins are wearing special “Stronger Than Hate” patches on their jerseys tonight in a show of support for the victims of the mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill over the weekend. According to the Penguins, each player will sign their jersey after the game and they will be made available for auction. The jersey auction will continue until noon on Nov. 12. During the pre-game ceremony, the Penguins played a special video, then held an 11-second moment of silence, one for each of the lives lost at the synagogue. 11 seconds of silence for 11 lives lost. If… (or friday night candles)

If love is only an emotion then a heart is only a steady drum. If love is only an emotion then a heart is only a steady drum. If love is only an emotion then a heart is only a steady drum.

Fill up the car with gas, check the oil and make sure the tires and brakes are good. Pack up your comfort clothes and bring the chargers and your laptop. Bring your contact lenses and your reading glasses. It's gonna be a long ride… Sharpen up your writing skills and learn to act on stage. Trim your four day old beard and bring some gel and ban...coffee cup and memories in hand. There’s a song playing on the radio - Alice Cooper - how you gonna see me now? If love is only an emotion then a heart is only a steady drum. If love is only an emotion then a heart is only a steady drum. If love is only an emotion then a heart is only a steady drum. Fill up the car with gas...the highway is aglow with the steady traffic and folks goin’ home. Take me, take me home...into your arms...dance with me tonight… Friday - we light the candles and gather...it's the best nights of my life...you make it brighter you make everything seem so right. If love is only an emotion then a heart is only a steady drum. If love is only an emotion then a heart is only a steady drum. If love is only an emotion then a heart is only a steady drum. Home again - its been only a short while but I don't understand where I have been. Dark days and illuminated evenings...alone while you sat by my side... If depression is a shackle then then a prison is only a locked door. If depression is a shackle then then a prison is only a locked door. If depression is a shackle then then a prison is only a locked door. You light those candles to bring me the light I desperately seek... You are my light... If love is only an emotion then a heart is only a steady drum. If you are only my partner then a storm is only a slight breeze. My heart, my heart...it has been pulled apart and taken out - you healed me... Friday aromas, Saturday morning memories a lifetime of gatherings and defining the power of love.  Physically insanely beautiful that is dwarfed by the beauty that exists within you. The power of you streams through your eyes, your smiles... If you are simply a human the world is simply a mass of water and dirt, nothing more. #grateful #shabbatshalom #love #fridaynightcandles #lovearomasInstagram

What has been going on between the antifa movement and the Republicans is becoming a civil war. The country is divided. It's time for this country to unite and to find a way to accept differences of opinion and engage in intelligent and respectful dialog. All human beings should be respectful to each other, to all living things. I don't know all the labels, LGBT etc. But who cares? Respect one another, you don't have to be friends but why be enemies? Follow the law - do not do onto others what you would not want done to you. Is that so difficult? If you see someone hurting, help them. If you see someone hungry help feed them. If you see someone homeless try and provide shelter. It's hard, life is hard and no matter how hard you think it is, it is always harder for other people. Whether you believe in a higher power, whichever you believe in, or if you do not believe... That doesn't mean differences of opinion or belief should be despised. Acceptance and dialog. Love is the ultimate answer Stop this hatred and all this divisiveness. Let us be United in this life we live. It's better together than separate. #bombs #whitepowder #acceptance #news #breakingnews #twitterInstagram

Most of the colors have faded, the sun is on the beach somewhere and there is a cold gust of loneliness being thrust onto these tracks. No train coming, nothing in sight. No time for dreaming, maybe tonight. When the street lights turn on, the purple sky above us, the winds blowing and the sounds of Brooklyn's songs begin to play. In the schoolyards, the street corners and the abandoned playgrounds. Where most of the colors have faded but they brighten up in the night. With the sounds of her voice and the sense of her love.... #home #brooklyn #wednesday #oyvey #love #instapoetry #poemoftheday #picofthedayInstagram

Whispers of Memories

Scenes from an old coffee shop in Coney Island where we used to go...too much sugar in that small cup made your tongue taste sweeter than it should have. It must have been me, must have been my fault. I had no idea, I had no clue - I still have no idea and have no clue - but I can act the part and write the lines myself.

We whisper goodbye and then hello again. I’d love to sit down with you and see how life has treated you; can you make that happen? Whispers, whispers… Scenes from an old coffee shop in Coney Island where we used to go...too much sugar in that small cup made your tongue taste sweeter than it should have. It must have been me, must have been my fault. I had no idea, I had no clue - I still have no idea and have no clue - but I can act the part and write the lines myself. Pull the needle from the record, we’ve heard that song too many times. Pull the string from the ceiling and let the light turn on. Here comes the sun, here comes the sun... #tongue #love #tbt #photooftheday #instapoetryInstagram

Just when you think you have it hard, you see someone who has it harder than you. Life is not fair and the judge can sometimes seem asleep, gavel in hand, casting judgments like words in the dark. See me, free me - gather them years lost and put them in a basket for a picnic. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was no rain today? Ah, those memories, photographs captured in the clouds above us. Music playing in the distance, right by the swings and the slides. I think it's Ricky Nelson singing about a garden party or perhaps it Don Mclean trying to stay alive. Phone ringing in the distance, through a window, in a house just across the street. It's ringing and ringing and the aroma of something tasty in the oven. Memories of life’s time’s that came and went - with the touch of her hand and a kiss goodbye. On the porch of our hotel room in Cleveland, a cold evening and no moon. Time passes and life continues. I know you are watching and I know you are smiling. Somewhere over the rainbow there are treasures to be enjoyed. You have physically ascended, yet somehow your presence is felt; like the warm sun or a cool breeze. Invisible to the eye but strong to the touch, never ceasing, always in our hearts. #biged #thursdaythoughts #loveInstagram

He sits in deep thoughts in rememberable of time and once crowded streets. In a city that was tough and gentle and love that had a gentle touch. He has no spark left, he sings to himself and runs unnoticed except for his gait. There are no more fantasies expected in reality, just surviving will have to cut it. No more sparkly dreams No more wondering when No more stories about the train and the riders No more songs about the last time He is sitting there, no light in his eyes Who stole it or did he sell it to the man living on the border line by the river Diablo? That tall man with the crooked conscience who will never learn how to live true… It's sad when you really think about it but who has time or energy to think anymore. These days near the end, these days if atonement, near this new beginning, will we ever truly comprehend or will it be dark once the sun sets…. For the final time and the dirt is thrown over the oak where no roses grow. The man he grins but it's far from a smile. He knows all ends are simply beginnings, so he grins and now it feels like a velvety smile. He is thinking about that place, where the birds always sing, where the river water is clean, the sky is always blue and the dusk clouds are red. Where we are given dreams and time, love and touch, tough and gentle… Gentle touch. #ftrain #wednesday #poetry #instapoem #publishme #twitterInstagram

There is a consistency to a good silent cry. There are tears and words, lost for reasons. Heaves, sighs and deep breaths in... And out. Time cut short, time can take so long, in the dark, when the sounds, from the streets never cease. Not the occasional barking dog, but the frequent fraudulent sounds of distant cries. Of lonely strangers, strap hangers lost and afraid. Off the road, off the path of traditional piety. Do you sense the time passing, in the dark, with the songs of the dead or the lost? The time crawls towards the corner sewer where the hidden cultures are celebrating another suburban miracle with acorns and left over rain water, toasts made. Love missionaries tramp the air as broken hearts scatter across the floors, the curbs, the asphalt littered with blood, sweat and tears. Life is filmed, inconsistently, from a balcony overlooking Union Square, a pigeon eye view of life's broken warriors, arrows, guns, no bows, no bullets. Cold air coming in from the river on the east side of the island, where the giant eagle once landed and lives were saved. Songs, poems, plays, soliloquies, beggars and lovers using words to change the courses of time. But the night drags on as the water flows against the curb into the sewer, into the champagne glasses raised in a toast to... Life? Love? Health? Auld Lang syne? Long lost friends, long lost ideas, hopes and clarity. Ruminations, thunderstruck, clouded over and shrouded into a dark corner. With incessant voices, from another time, same place. Open doors, frozen windows and shadows across the floor. A newborn baby is crying, snowless winter evening, nothing to show for the cold still night. I got this scar above my eye, you can touch it if you'd like. I got this scar above my eye, you can heal it with your touch. Prayers, like silent cries, is it only a wall or is it something more? An evening, a love song, a dance all alone. An abscess within, cross the aisle to the right, eyes wide open, hair tiered in colors black and gray, a cup of tea to help fulfill the promises of... Something. Echoes in the streets, words, whispered, words shouted and other words sung. Words written, pushed into the wall.... #monday #poemInstagram

You run out of breath

You see, there is this vortex… The old tale of selling one's soul… It happens every day. I know I have a soul but sometimes I feel I must've lost it in the flood, it went floating in a spin, down the drain, where people with false smiles and goods to sell, wear bright and shiny suits and say what is needed to say.

You run out of breath. When your mind tells you to run but your heart just isn't in it… Logic and need dictate my day and my soul cries out at night At what point do we listen to the memes and the screams to live as we choose, to “do what we love?" At what point does our heart give in to what our soul desires? I've been living in this soulless stratosphere, a man who thrives off of souls and healing hearts. Been failing and falling all along. Self sabotage? Poor decisions and extreme gravitational pulls towards the darkness. A pill cannot stop one from being sucked into the vortex, only action can. But there are bills to pay and mouths to feed… How much longer until this old heart breaks down again? Time has been stuffed with false optimism and spoon fed lies; willingly allowing consumption of the dosage that was prescribed to me. A shaken hand, an agreement, “take good care of my soul, sir.” " Don't worry,” he smiles, "you won't need it where you are going. You won't need it if you want to live here. Amongst the trees and flowers, where gray and white are the only colors that you can see. Where music is stoic and the weather is always overcast with a chance of a shower. You'll be fine.” He winks and walks away laughing. You sleep and you dream, your optimism has been strangled by too many doses of reality spiked with negativity. You dream while you are awake and you know you can change the world. The phone rings and you are consumed with cancerous thoughts. Your heart beats and the night is coming on fast… “Hold on," you whisper to yourself,”it's time to take back what never should have been given away “ #soul #life #fridayfeeling #healmyheart #savemysoul #tgif #poetryofinstagramInstagram
