Deceptive Truth

Signs point me in the wrong direction or perhaps I am reading them wrong? Living a life in a self deception and feeling if it's been me behind the mask all along? Lost in this wilderness… I don't want to… Be free… I don't want to… Lose sight of me…

The Muttering River Chapter 4

For the rest of the summer we explored. We explored different areas, riding by bicycle and going for long walks. We had explored each other and learned all about what Bob Seger called, “Night Moves.”

Silence in the Voices

Is it an omen that the ominous signs seem to be disappearing behind those ominous clouds up in the sky? I close my eyes I listen for His words but all I hear is deafening silence.

The Muttering River Chapter 3

It was a humid evening and the Rabbi pronounced us man and wife. The river was roaring past us as the sun beat down on the altar and the glass was shattered.

The Muttering River

The lake was on the other side of the county - I never really went there too often since I felt, in a strange way, that I was cheating on the river by enjoying the lake. Strange since I also felt like I was cheating on Jacklyn by enjoying Sandy.

Frenzied life

Willy Loman, George Costanza, Freddy Goodwell, salesman who lost their way and ended up with nothing, a pole and a legacy erased. The Muttering River – Chapter 1

I would be hanging out with my friends in the parking lot of the diner, laughing and flirting with the girls and suddenly a blanket would fall over me. I would feel a sense of dread, like a bruise inside of me pulsating...I would go use the bathroom and then find my way to the river.  This happened often and then too often.

We live in a world where business is our lives. We wake up and we get dressed based on our business day ahead. We spend the day selling buying or doing whatever it takes to make money to support our families or our lifestyles. Some people are locked on a one-way street and somehow unable to change course. Some people are artists or some people dream too much. Sometimes the dreams cloud over us and create a fog that distracts us until we find ourselves lost, on that one way street with no way to turn back. So we trudge on, dying a little with each mile, living the untruth in life, untruth of who we are or who we thought we would be. It's alright, I guess, it's the road we chose... #work #working #job #myjob #office #company #bored #grind #mygrind #dayjob #ilovemyjob #dailygrind #photooftheday #business #biz #life #workinglate #computer #instajob #instalife #instagood #instadaily #tgif #shabbatInstagram

Seasons of Hopes and Dreams

As August began I would begin to look forward to Autumn and then to winter. It's literally the middle of the summer and all I can do is dream and become sentimental and romanticize freezing temperatures and snowy evenings.  The cold air blowing, snowstorms, hot chocolate and sweaters. If you were cold, you could put on a sweater or go beneath the covers - in the heat there was no cover and as I said, the air conditioner didn't really work as they do today.

Be true to who you are but remember that not everyone is ready for you. Somewhere on the outskirts of town, this town being Nowhere, New York, there is a little book shop called, “The Turtle.” This book shop has been around since 1938 and has been owned and managed, since then, by the Rumpio family. Oscar opened the store in 1938 when he was 23 years old. He had inherited a sum of money from his grandfather, Charles, who had passed away the year before. Grandpa Charles had left him the money with a one sentenced instruction. “Use this money to make your dreams come true.” Since Oscar’s dream had been to be a writer, he decided to open a bookstore. In 1941 he enlisted into the US Army - in 1945 he returned to the store with his dream intact, but his left eye missing. During his time overseas the store was kept open and run by Oscar’s mother. When Oscar returned she remained in the business to help with the ordering, inventory and accounting. “I’ll be your left eye, son.” She said. In 1951, Oscar spied a red haired girl reading “This side of Paradise,” in his store. He walked over to her and began a conversation. This conversation lasted well into the evening hours; first over dinner and then as he walked her home. They married a year later and had 2 children. Charles and Helen. On September 11, 2001, Oscar and his red haired lady were at the wrong place at the wrong time. They were visiting New York City with another couple when the first tower came down and they were swept away. Charles took over the responsibilty of the store and Helen ran the social aspect of it. It was her idea to begin book clubs and nightly poetry readings. Helen moved to Chicago and married her best friend from college. They opened up their own store on the outskirts of Somewhere in Illinois and had four children of their own. Charles stayed in the store on the outskirts of Nowhere, New York and drank several cups of coffee during the day. One day he found a manuscript with his name on it. There was a date beneath his name, May 22, 1925. “A Life of Lemons,” By Charles Rumpio.Instagram

History repeats itself as if that history never existed. Judgments made out of fear, self appointed judges inciting witchhunts, with torches, ropes and sermons. It's a world saturated with artificial reasons for fear and for needing to be accepted. She is not like me and I am not like her, because he believes in this and I believe in that. What a backwards way of living. Judge, condemn, repeat only causes tsunamis of death and fear. The age old question of, "why can't we simply accept each other as we are?" Is constantly rebuked and mocked... Repeat. Gay, straight, black, white, Jew, Muslim, Christian, man, woman, whatever one identifies as, why should it be other people's concern? (If I left off anyone or any specific verbiage it is not intentional, these were just the ones that came to mind) “That which is hateful to you, do not do to another" Right? That basically means, don't do anything to someone else that you would not want done to you or your loved ones. So why do we continue to do just that? To posture in front of the mirror or the cameras and to give off a facade of strength, when the facade is used to cover up fear and perhaps a desire to be just what you are condemning? Don't you know that hatred is a sign of weakness and love is only found through strength? Enough pontificating here, just needed to let it out. Enough political correctness where no correctness needs to be found. Enough of this conversion therapy being used on anyone who does not fit into what the hangman envisions each person to be. Flaunt your true selves and do the right thing by respecting others. Do not be so quick to judge others if what they are doing is not abusive or forced upon. It's not a simple task "acceptance." Other people's way of living can be infuriating and abhorrent to another person. But who are we to judge? Or follow the words of Hillel, “That which is hateful to you, do not do to another" #diversity #bethechange #change #family #community #uniqueness #respect#love #positivity #lgbtq #healing #peace #life #pride #gratitude #lgbt #mentalhealth #understanding #acceptance#satan #history #superstition #godInstagram

When the bars have been lowered and it's still hard to reach. The words are on your mind but you are unable to speak. The sun is nowhere to be seen... It's that darkness inside that keeps you in place. You twist and your turn but you just cannot replace. The ghosts of depression which haunt you with smiles and laughter. It's not standing ovations or acknowledgement you are after. Lost in a central station, caught between chains and salvation. Is there another train going home? The choices between love and freedom... Sometimes it's not as simple as it seems. The clock on the wall has turned too many times already and there is no turning back. There is no gray, yet I feel so old. There is no silver and there sure ain't no gold. Feeling like a fighter at the end of 15 rounds... Hands up and trying to stand my ground. I'm bleeding, invisible blood. Crying, tears that fall from above. Screaming yet I make no sound... Can you feel me? Can you heal me? Can you hear me? Can you touch me? Lost, like that dog running scared. Lost like a star racing across the sky. Lost... #keepwriting #writingpoetry #writinggoals #writingabook #writingcommunityofinstagram #writingskills #writingworkshop#poetry #poems #poem #poetsofinstagram #poetofinstagram #prosebyme #mypoem #freddyzalta #writing #writingcommunity  #igwriters #igwriter #original #originalpoem #originalprose #poetsociety #writersofinstagram #writer #author #adviceInstagram

It's a search; a fruitless search for gold that keeps you coming back. Jumping into a tidal wave of cement, quicksand, a bottomless hole. Sounds echo yet it's the silence that pains you, it's the screaming that slowly kills you. You prefer to walk alone because you cannot, will not, relent and surrender your inner truth. The truth that handcuffs you to the pole that is 300 degrees Fahrenheit, you twist and you turn to avoid the pain and the aroma of burning flesh. But you cling to it for as long as you can... #followme #follower #followhim #photography #followbackinstantly #followme #boy #fashion #instagood #photooftheday #model #photography #men #smile #stylish #nature #jeans #manInstagram

This world, this country needs to be educated on recent historical events. Education on the six million, SIX MILLION children and adults where destroyed along with their future lives and their future offspring. Why? One reason alone. They were Jewish. The fact that anyone would question, deny or be neutral about this actual event is beyond belief and I believe these people should be brought to Auschwitz or other concentration camps where the killing took place over 5 years.Instagram

I wrote this in 2013 6 years ago today it was 4 months after my quadruple bypass surgery so I must have been feeling emotional. Thank You to all who have held me, kissed me, scolded me, prodded me and awoke me when I slept. All who have housed me and have fed me. All who have told me to be quiet and all who have told me to speak or to sing. All who have read my words when others just shrugged and moved on. To all who never judged but were able to speak in private to me and share their views without forcing them on me. To all who smile to me and to all who share my life from my birth until the year 2086 when I will turn 120 years old. To all who accepted my flirtations as friendliness and weren't creeped out. I am a loud person who lives to make people laugh just to brighten or to add to the brightness of their day. Hour or minute. Thank you to all who have ignored me, spoke ill of me and looked at me with a "holier than thou" attitude. Thank you for not imposing your disastrous destructive presence into my life by "trying to be my friend." Thank you. And last but not least - thank you to my family - from parents, to siblings, in laws, nieces and nephews, cousins, children and my wife. For accepting who I am and for loving me even when the dosage of Freddy is way to close to overdose. We are all human beings, which in definition, means we are imperfect. Being imperfect opens up opportunities for improvement and change - being stagnant and in a state of inertia is not conducive to a fulfilling and happy life. We must always strive to change, to improve ourselves, to make ourselves feel uncomfortable - being uncomfortable will allow us to thrust ourselves up into a stratosphere of freedom. Safety zones and comfort zones should only be used as a rest area - fear and anxiety must be felt in order to learn and to a grow as individuals. The problem with fear and anxiety is that unless you have been through it - it makes no sense to you and you simply want to smack the person experiencing it and say, “Get over it!” If only it were that simple... The fear of impending doom one feels when in the midst of a panic attack is indescribable to others who have never encountered this silent band of demons. Think of it as if having a revolver pointed at you from ten different angles while the piecing sounds of rebel yells are coming at you in maximum surround sound clarity. Reality has nothing to do with the scenes you are experiencing, but to the person in the throes of the attack, they are as real as the heart that is pounding in your chest. In order to learn to defeat these authentic yet countrerfeit scenes of doom and impending disaster - one needs to become more aware of the emotions they are suppressing or impressing upon themselves. Find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable speaking with. Judge for yourself - do not base your judgment on the diplomas on the wall or the advice of loved ones. You need to feel you can trust the therapist to listen and to guide you through this process. Be patient though, it takes time for the walls you have built around yourself, both internally and externally, to come down. It's quite possible that you have been suppressing feelings your whole life. I remember when I was a kid of 12 years or so and I said I wanted to be an actor. I was laughed at and told that there is no future in acting and that there were “millions of unemployed actors” starving. I felt ashamed and foolish. Continued...Instagram

Me and @docgooden what an honor to meet a man who has overcome his demons and looks great. I have so many memories of him on the field as a NY Met. Number 16 owned New York during the 1980s. Unfortunately he had to go through a path that was painful for him and his loved ones. We don't know why some people have to go through thick darkness in their lives. Maybe for Mr Gooden leading by example is his path to the Hall of Fame where his name and number will forever be etched in stone. The Doc is standing tall and seemingly free from the demons that sent him off course. Independence

But those fourth of July's...beach, barbecues and good times...at least that is what I choose to remember. We cannot change the past or truly remember exactly how things were. Our memory rewrites the stories over and over again. Embellishing the good times and perhaps being quietly haunted by the bad.  Things weren’t always so simple for this boy, nor the boy inside this man; I still go through a lot of lonely days and feel an internal sadness even when I shouldn’t be feeling that way.

Feeling and Saying, “Thank You”

From last year... What are your thoughts? There are so many gifts we are given that are easily taken for granted. We are so caught up in the “what we need” that we forget just what it is that we have. The needs and the haves are different for each individual. Why one side is feasting while others down the road are starving – as much as we try to understand – we truly have no clue. We all feel some sense of gratitude about some parts of life. But it’s the verbalizing of this gratitude which we let slip away. I am sure people will deny ever failing to express gratitude. Some people pray to their higher power with words written by others and read them quickly to get through the task. Think of it like a little kid when their guardian says, “Say thank you.” They put on an angry face and say in a deep and quick pace, “Thankyou.” “Thank yous” become a reflex reaction like a knee jerk. You are given something that is priceless and you say, “Thank you.” A sports player excels and points at the sky and says, “Thank you.” But when they fail do they express gratitude for at least being given the chance? A child is fed, clothed, housed and educated for their first 18 years or so of their lives and they say countless, “Thank yous.” But do they ever truly sit back and think about just what it is they are saying thank you for? Middle of the night wake ups, constant meals, shelter, entertainment, medical treatment, clothing, a bed, unconditional love, support and education in all facets of life. Not until they are grown up and they begin to care for children do they realize the amount of physical and mental energy, time and self sacrifice that goes into the process. We take so much for granted in life that we forget the gifts given to us upon birth. Lets just bring out the five senses that people are given. Sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. Tough as nails, soft to the touch. Love of traditions in his soul, No deviation on his watch. Strength in his heart, love in his eyes. Expressing himself truly, never a thought of a lie, standing tall and looking life in the eyes, never altering his course. Life is filled with questions and God provides the answers, can anyone understand it more than you? There is more to this world, death is not the end, I hope you are laughing and learning with your loved ones again. Where the ravages of sickness and time have turned to youth and health, where pain is no longer alive, true peace and happiness is considered wealth. You made such an impression, you created so many worlds, with your love by your side, your flags forever unfurled. I know you are walking where paradise was born and history is alive. Where the answers are so simple to the questions once so complex… We'll meet again someday and it will all make sense. #life #worldtocome #love #paradise #happiness #answers #questions #traditionsInstagram

Got to be Me

I must have died a thousand times in my life, suppressing that spark in my soul that lit up my worlds.

"It's not hopeless, it's been done before. Drink your juice kid, do what needs to be done. Stop thinking you are meant for something more, something miraculous that can change the world. Sit at your desk and pay attention. Stop calling out, stop being the clown and for God sakes stop daydreaming." I must have died a thousand times in my life, suppressing that spark in my soul that lit up my worlds. We give up so much of our true self because we need to follow other people's ideas of how we should act, dress and feel. It's like I'm in a straight jacket, rag around my mouth and blindfolded. Needing to run and sing, yet forced to sit quietly my emotions nearly tucked in. I think that's why I have failed… But I can't do it anymore, can't turn into the walking dead who walk alongside me. I can't keep in step, I just don't have that rhythm. "It's not hopeless, it's been done before. But I won't drink that juice and I'll remember that I am someone special who can do the miraculous. I am meant for more…" That is why I shake, I am suppressing so many emotions and physical motions I need to express. Of course it's natural to need to break out, I need to break out. Nothing I've been doing, is doing anyone any good. I cannot be great trying to be someone I truly do not want to be. That anxiety is my true self wanting to break free… It has to start with me. Set me free, it starts with me, set me free, let me be… Free. #anxiety #suppression #freedom #emotionalhonesty #selfworth #love #poetry #poems #poem #poetsofinstagram #poetofinstagram #prosebyme #mypoem #freddyzalta #writing #writingcommunity  #igwriters #igwriter #original #originalpoem #originalprose #poetsociety #writersofinstagram #writer #author #adviceInstagram

We worry about the future and that future never comes. Time rushes on and the future we constantly invent for ourselves never ever turns out exactly how we planned it. So relax and focus on the now while doing some preparing for that future that will come when you least expect it. Like, now. Stop trying to catch up to the future, it will always out race you, learn from but don't hang on to the past, it's going already. #present #selfempowerment #love #tomorrowisnow #yesterdayispast #obvious but not so easily understood l.Instagram

A Shadow of two people dancing as a crooner sings a song professing his love for his lady. They are slow dancing on a roof somewhere and the shadow is being cast by a full moon over New York City. The crooner is coming out of a small radio and the couple are each from France. They had arrived in New York ten years earlier, separately, with different spouses, to escape the Germans who were now marching through Paris, but who back then, were just knocking on the doors of France - all set to break them down if not opened. They were both non observant Jews. They had worked together in a university in Paris and were lovers in the shadows of the Eiffel Tower and the Seine. Their respective spouses had returned to France, unafraid since they were non-observant and did not consider themselves Jewish. Unfortunately the Germans didn't make the distinction between practicing Judaism and being born a Jew - they had each been sent to different camps and had not been heard of since. Fifty some years later on - four children, eighteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; Beatrice had been told that the cancer that had taken away her hair and any strength she still had away, was back. This time the Doctors were not giving her more than six months. Victor had sat down with her and told her, "Just as in Paris we knew it was our time to leave, so here in New York City, we must accept it is our time to leave, once again." With that he bought a bottle of wine, a tape recorder with a recording of their favorite songs. They went up to the roof and then as they had back in the forties - left their home for the promise of a better life. #poetry #poems #poem #poetsofinstagram #poetofinstagram #prosebyme #mypoem #freddyzalta #writing #writingcommunity  #igwriters #igwriter #originalpoem #originalprose #poetsociety #writersofinstagram #writer #author #advice #edithpiaf #LouisarmstrongInstagram

From "Life of Salesman Owned no more" buy it! The breaking point "All of us, ladies and gentlemen are slaves to the government, slaves to our bosses and slaves to our basic human needs. We are owned! We are owned by the simple fact that we want to have a better life! A better life! So, you get to work before nine so the boss doesn't throw it in your face that you come in late. You work until after six so the boss doesn't say, 'you have banker’s hours?' You eat by your desk because you have to follow the lemmings who do the same, the other slaves in the cubicle prison. We are recorded, followed, monitored and critiqued. We are docked, fired, suspended without pay and treated as inferior if we don't blow the bosses in the fishbowl for all to see. We are ostracized, immobilized and dehumanized because we use the bathroom too many times or walk to get a cup of coffee and stop to say a few words to a co-worker or co-inhabitant of the insane asylum we knowingly attend and dedicate our time to." I could see smartphones videoing me and I realized that this might cause a problem. "Well, I don't know about you all - but I am sick and tired of being owned." I sat in my car and heard the strangest sound. A chant had begun, "You don't own me," over and over again. As I closed the door to my car someone came to my window. "What's your name?" "My name? Howard Beale." I said with a smile. By the time I got home my daughter came over to me crying. "I was worried for you, are you ok?" "Why were you worried for me?" "It's all over the internet Daddy." It's magic, it's an illusion, it's a trick of the eye. It's a sleight of hand, a false pose, a flick of the wrist or a diversion tactic. So many distractions, in real time or in perfect clarity replay. The universe in your hand, anything you want, need or are required to eat, feel or wear. To recite, to review, to make love to, to unite or to spread hatred and divisiveness. It's all there for you in 3d, high quality video and surround sound audio. Purity in Emotion

Childhood...the wonder years...purity in emotion, purity in exuberance and purity in intention...

A fresh slate, a new day, an empty canvas… Children are like the first morning light, the first buds of spring, the first snow flakes falling. The future is always uncertain, but the child lives in the here and now. The past slips away and tomorrow is always for another day. Deep breath, deep thoughts, the power of love, life and nature. God is spinning us around, our open playground with no fences, walls or distractions. Childhood…the wonder years…purity in emotion, purity in exuberance and purity in intention… First loves, first hand held and the first kiss… An empty canvas with splattered colors of red, blue and yellow. A fresh slate spotted with life, love and faith. Is there anything left to paint? NomiSim is what they call her Naomi Simhon Is her name . A Sephardic jew from Israeli and middle eastern descent.
